If your freedom depends on a lie, how can you ever be free? As an addict you use a “drug” (alcohol, drugs, sex, or people) to feel comforted, relaxed, happy, but finally to feel free of the bondage of self-identity. It doesn’t really work. Maybe you are also discovering that now. This self-identity is self-imposed, not God-created. It is nourished by the occupation of addictive mind and is constantly shaken by outside causes. Its stability relies on something, some “drug” outside itself.
Freedom is experiencing yourself as you really are – in integrity, strength and love. The 12 Steps, as well as the mind-training of A Course In Miracles, works through admitting to or becoming aware of your blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, deciding to stop living out the pattern of “trying to solve your problem,” and remembering again what it is to be dependent on God for your freedom and your life.
Nothing else worked for us. We couldn’t still our own pain, did not know how to open our self-imposed hand cuffs. We found that, while depending on a lie, we could not force, secure or fight for our freedom and truly find it.
All you ever need is one moment - let’s say THIS moment - where you love without attack. An instant is sufficient. Miracles wait not on time. It’s so incredible! This whole new experience of yourself is possible in your dependence on God. It really is the only thing worth striving for. This is an invitation to look at what you think your freedom depends on, and take this moment to lay it all aside to make room for an experience of something totally new. That new idea will dawn on your mind and change the way you look at yourself forever. Can you see how free you are?
I love you so much and I am reaching my hand out to you. There is no need for more time or pain. But we need God. Let’s find Him now!
